Nautek is yacht operations software. It stores what you and your crew enter so you can run your boat. We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
What we collect
- Contact details — your name, email address and role, and the same for crew, suppliers and contacts you add. If you invite someone, we store the email address you invited until the invite is accepted or withdrawn.
- Boat and operations data — inventory, equipment, documents, maintenance and work orders, logs, cruises, bookings, expenses and cost-share settlements.
- Photos and files — anything you upload: item photos, receipts, manuals, certificates, and crew identity documents where you choose to store them.
- Location — only while the app is open, and only when you turn position sharing on. See below; this one deserves its own section.
- Account identifiers and diagnostics — your user id, sign-in times, and error reports used to keep the service working.
Location, specifically
The app asks for location while you are using it. It is used for two things, and you should know about both before you allow it:
- Showing where you are on the chart and finding nearby fuel stops and marinas. This stays on your device apart from the search itself.
- Reporting the boat’s position while position sharing is switched on — so the owner or charter operator can see the vessel on their fleet map. This is precise location, it is stored, and it is linked to your account.
Position sharing is off until you turn it on, it is per-trip, and turning it off stops new positions being recorded. The app never collects location in the background or when it is closed.
Who else processes it
We use these services to deliver Nautek. They process data on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
- Supabase — the database, file storage and sign-in.
- Vercel — hosting for the web app.
- Expo — delivery and updates for the mobile app.
- Resend — sending notification and invitation email.
- Anthropic — reading photos and PDFs you ask us to interpret: receipts, hull identification plates, equipment labels, and passport photos on the crew screen. The image is sent for analysis and is not used to train models.
- Voyage AI — turning manual and document text into search indexes so “ask the manuals” can answer questions.
- Mapbox, OpenStreetMap and OpenSeaMap — map and chart tiles. Google Places — searching for marinas, fuel and services near a point you choose.
- Open-Meteo — weather for a position. Frankfurter — currency exchange rates (no personal data).
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app: More → Profile → Close your account. Before anything happens the app shows you exactly what will go — which boats will be deleted, which will transfer to another owner, and how many items, members and upcoming bookings are affected.
Deletion removes your sign-in, your profile and the boats you solely own, along with their inventory and documents. Boats with another owner transfer to them and keep working — we will not delete other people’s records because you left. We keep a minimal record that an account was deleted, and when, so we can honour the deletion and prove we did; it contains no personal content.
You can also export your data from the privacy screen in the app, or ask us at shipshape@hideandseek.digital.
How long we keep it
Your boat’s records are kept while the account exists, because maintenance history is the point of the product. Encrypted backups are retained for a short rolling window and expire on their own. Position history is kept for the trip and its replay, not indefinitely.
Where it is stored
Managed Postgres and object storage, encrypted in transit and at rest. Some processors above operate outside your country; by using Nautek you consent to that transfer.
Children
Nautek is for adults running a vessel. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Your rights, and how to use them
You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or object to how we handle it. Email shipshape@hideandseek.digital and we will respond within 30 days. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to your local data protection authority — in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes
If we change what we collect or who processes it, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for anything material, tell you in the app.
